China Achieves Full Localization of 51,000-Ton Low-Hydroxyl Silicone Oil, Boosting Condensation Silicone Supply Chain

In Q3 2026, a Chinese silicone intermediate manufacturer successfully commissioned a 51,000-ton/year continuous production line for low-hydroxyl small-molecule silicone oil, a critical raw material for high-performance condensation silicone. The plant achieves precise hydroxyl content control (1.2–12%) with batch deviation <0.5% and volatile content <15ppm, far exceeding industry averages. This breakthrough fully localizes production of high-purity hydroxyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), the base polymer for RTV-2 condensation silicone mold rubbers and electronic potting compounds. Previously, 70% of China’s high-end low-hydroxyl silicone oil was imported from Japan and Germany. The new capacity will stabilize domestic supply, reduce raw material costs by 25%, and support the expansion of China’s condensation silicone export market, particularly in Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
